First
team
200 medley relay:
IMMACULATE HEART (Danielle Romain, junior; Kayla McAvoy, sophomore;
Casey Fazio, sophomore; Chloe Conjares, senior): Conjares swam the
final leg in 24.52 to help the Blue Eagles shatter the County meet
record by more than three seconds. They finished in
1:51.67.
200 freestyle: DANIELLE
ROMAIN, Immaculate Heart, junior
Romain showed her
versatility this season for the Blue Eagles, competing in the 200,
500 and 100 freestyles and the 100 backstroke and individual
medley. She lost only one individual race.
200 individual medley:
ELLEN HUELBIG, Rutherford, senior
Huelbig also won the
County championship in this race as a sophomore and, despite
competing with an injured leg, finished 10th at the Meet of
Champions. She will swim at Connecticut College.
50 freestyle: CHLOE
CONJARES, Immaculate Heart, senior
The Oakland resident went
unbeaten this season and finished her high school career with 11
County gold medals (eight relay and three individual), tied for
second most all time.
100 butterfly: ELLEN
HUELBIG, Rutherford, senior
Huelbig became the first
Rutherford swimmer to win two County championships at the same
meet, winning with a time of 59.35. She also took 11th in the Meet
of Champions in the fly.
100 freestyle: CHLOE
CONJARES, Immaculate Heart, senior
Conjares repeated as
County champion in this event and added the league title to her
résumé. After considering Georgetown, she will swim
at Villanova.
500 freestyle: SARA
CRAFT, Glen Rock, sophomore
Craft broke a
nine-year-old meet record in the 500 by five seconds. She has three
All-American times in the 500, 200 and 1,650 free for her club
team, the Wyckoff Sharks.
200 freestyle relay:
IMMACULATE HEART (Tara Nuzzo, senior; Emily Pedrick, senior; Kate
Courter, senior; Chloe Conjares, senior): This foursome includes
three Division I athletes, Conjares (Villanova), Pedrick
(Fairfield) and Courter (James Madison for soccer).
100 backstroke: CASEY
FAZIO, Immaculate Heart, sophomore
Washington Township
resident excels in the backstroke, where she won her first
individual County championship, finishing in 59.24. Also won the
NJTCC Division B title in this event.
100 breast stroke: KAYLA
McAVOY, Immaculate Heart, sophomore
Was pushed in both the
County and league championship in this race before coming through
with wins. The Wyckoff native has won this race at the County
championship two straight years.
400 freestyle relay:
IMMACULATE HEART (Monica Nunez, sophomore; Ashleigh Podhayny,
sophomore; Kim DiNapoli, junior; Danielle Romain, junior): The Blue
Eagles continued their streak of having never lost a relay at the
County championship as this foursome rolled to a win in 3:42.06.
For comparison’s sake, that time would have been 10th among
the boys.
Coach of the year: TOM
VISCARDI, Northern Highlands
Since taking over at
Highlands five years ago, Viscardi has not lost a regular-season
meet and has seen his team win five NBIL titles. It also has
finished second in the County championship four of the last five
seasons.
